How we work
Editorial policy
The standards every page on this site is held to — so you know what our recommendations are worth, and what they will never be for sale.
Independence
Recommendations are made independently of commission. Commission rates vary by product and we do not consider them when ranking — the buyer's interest decides the order, full stop. No brand pays for placement, no manufacturer supplies free product, and no outside party reviews our copy before publication. Where the cheaper option is the better buy, we say so, even though it earns us less. See our affiliate disclosure for how the money works.
Accuracy and sourcing
Every specification we publish traces to a primary source — the manufacturer's specification sheet or manual — and where a figure came from someone else's measurement we name and link them. We do not present others' testing as our own, and we do not publish a number we could not verify. Where verification wasn't possible, we say so on the page. Our full research method is documented at /methodology.
What we will never do
- Invent testing we didn't perform, or claim hands-on experience we don't have.
- Fabricate reviews, ratings, review counts, or testimonials.
- Publish a price we typed by hand or remembered — prices come only from the live data layer.
- Invent credentials or a background for our author.
- Recommend a product because it pays more.
Our scores and verdicts
Our scores are editorial judgments built from documented research against a published rubric, shown broken into named metrics so you can see what each is made of. They are not laboratory measurements and are never presented as customer ratings — we have no customer reviews to aggregate, and we would not invent them.
Updates and freshness
Prices refresh continuously and carry an "as of" date. Roundups are reviewed when a successor model ships or a pick is discontinued or restricted, and each carries a visible "Updated" date. Discontinued or US-unavailable products are removed from live picks rather than left as dead links.
Corrections
We make mistakes, and when we do we fix them in the open. Report a factual error via the contact form or email info@focalandframe.com; we aim to correct confirmed errors within 48 hours, with a note on the page where the correction is material.
